In response to new UN data revealing that the lives of nearly 50 million children have been saved since 2000 – with the number of children who die before the age of five from mostly preventable causes having fallen to 5.9 million a year – Patrick Watt, Global Campaign and Advocacy Director, Save the Children says:
“This is remarkable progress, and demonstrates that with strong political commitment, we can bring about real change in the lives of children. However, the report also reveals that too many children are still dying from preventable causes each day. One of the biggest challenges of the next 15 years is to further accelerate this progress and save those children who have been left behind.
“With only two weeks before world leaders gather in New York to unveil the Sustainable Development Goals, we need to redouble our efforts in order to reach every child by 2030.”
